Confirm your identity
Getting verified – how to confirm your identity.
As an e-money institution, we always need to know who we are doing business with. For you to be able to use our services, we may need to ask for some documents that confirm your identity and your residential address. We might also ask you to supply a letter of authorization to ensure that you have the right to represent the company.
If you are asked to get verified, you will need to supply this information before you can start taking payments.
How to verify your identity
For you to be able to use our services, we may need to ask for some documents that confirm your identity and your residential address.
We might also ask you to supply a letter of authorization to ensure that you have the right to represent the company. We only use the documents and information provided to verify your account, they will not be shared with anyone else.
Where to begin
We offer a secure way of sharing your documents with us through the iZettle iOS and Android app and my.izettle.com. We recommend using the app as it is more convenient at the moment. You can find the "Get verified" section in the "Get started" tab in the menu. From there, just follow the instructions and upload the requested documents.
What kind of documents do we ask for?
Proof of address
We want to see your name and your residential address on an official document. Note that the document should be no more than 3 months old.
The types of document we can verify are:
- A utility bill (like gas, internet, electricity)
- A bank statement
- HMRC letter
- A council tax bill (no more than 12 months old)
Proof of identity
We need to see your name and date of birth clearly on an official ID document.
The types of identifications we can verify are:
- Driving licence
- National identity card (we may ask for front and back in some countries)
In some special cases you may have to upload a very specific document based on your situation/location/business, this can be for example, a visa or residence permit. Just follow the instructions you have received from the email and upload the documents requested. You can upload up to 10 documents.
Proof of authorisation
We need to make sure that you have the right to represent the company. We need to know your name and position in the company, as well as the name and position from someone that is legally allowed to represent the company (like a director or beneficial owner). We will generate a document (letter of authorisation) for you so you don’t have to print or scan anything.
You can share this letter with the authoriser through:
- Phone number
The authoriser will then have to upload a picture of their ID/passport and sign the prefilled letter. They need nothing but an internet connection to do so and everything will be processed by Scrive, an electronic signature solution.
Proof of business
We need to make sure we have an official business certificate for the company listed. Please make sure you include all pages of your document.
The type of document we can verify are:
- Partnership agreement
- Self assessment (with HMRC)
- Charity overview (from the charity commission or the FCA)
Company ownership structure
We need to make sure we have all the beneficial owners or directors associated with the company listed.
The type of document we can verify are:
- Company ownership structure
- Identifications (IDs) of all UBOs (persons that owns more than 25% of the company or have controlling interest)
In some cases, we might need to request a visa or residence permit to ensure you have the right to do business in that specific country. For example, if you were born in Brazil but moved to England to work, started a business and then applied for iZettle. In this case, we may not be sure how long you are allowed to stay in England so we will ask for more documents.
Important: Note that you have to send us both of the documents below for us to be able to verify them! The types of documents we can verify are:
- A visa or residence permit
- A passport or National ID (issued from your birth country)
In some cases your application needs to be handled manually. If you see "Contact support" please contact our local support team.
What happens when you’ve uploaded your documents?
Once you have sent us your documents, we will review them and get back to you as soon as possible.
If the documents that you’ve sent us matches the information you’ve registered with, we will confirm your identity and you will be able to start taking card payments straight away.
If the documents that you’ve uploaded don’t show the correct information, or if the information doesn’t match what you provided in the registration, you will be asked to upload new documents again.
