Accepted cards

At iZettle, we charge one flat transaction fee no matter which cards you choose to accept.

Read through this article so that you are aware of which card providers you can accept with iZettle. The more cards you accept, the more sales you can make – this is especially true if you work with a lot of tourists or business travellers who use cards from different parts of the world.

The iZettle Reader & Reader 2 allow you to accept contactless and card payments as well as transactions with mobile wallets such as Apple, Samsung and Google Pay.

Magnetic Stripe and the iZettle Reader 2
The iZettle Reader 2 does not accept magnetic stripe cards. This functionality was removed for security reasons and helps keep businesses safe by decreasing the chance of fraudulent transactions. Chip and Pin and Contactless transactions are a much safer form of accepting credit cards.

Cost and fees:
For card (and contactless) payments, you’ll be charged a fixed transaction fee of 1.75%, regardless of which card you process with your iZettle Reader. Read more here.

The Pro Contactless reader allows you to accept contactless and card payments as well as transactions with mobile wallets such as Apple, Samsung and Google Pay.

Checking the buyer’s card

As a seller it is important for both your own and your customer’s safety that you check:

  • that the card holder’s signature is on the back of the card
  • that the card holder’s signature on the device screen matches that on the back of the card
  • that the card does not bear any traces of alterations
  • that the card has not expired
  • that the card has been issued by one of the card issuers listed in the general terms and conditions.

If either of these conditions is not met, the card is not acceptable as a means of payment.  

As an additional security measure, you can check the cardholder's ID to see that it matches the name on the card.
